I have been fortunate to train more yoga teachers than I can count.
(Yet, I won't be satisfied until I teach you.)
“This training made my life mine again. I have learned what it means to identify with the REAL me” ~Vona Broughton, Myrtle beach, SC
“It helped me cultivate such an amazing relationship with myself... It left me with the necessary skills to enhance the quality of life that I was seeking! Thank you Atma for all of your association and guidance!” ~ April DuBose, Clemeth Falls, Oregon
“I am forever indebted to you for truly opening my eyes and making me ‘feel’.” ~ Ananta, London, England
“Your broad vision of spirituality is uplifting, and is a great inspiration. Personally I’ve found this time and these teachings to be of wonderful value for looking where we fear the most – inside.” ~ Gaura Arati Dasi, Wellington, New Zealand
“I will integrate these teachings into my daily life. Your humble attitude and strong spiritual values will be constantly leading me toward success.” ~ Li-Jun, Taichung, Taiwan
“My journey through this process with Atma has been for me one of the most profound and life-altering experiences in my life. It did a lot of work on my nervous system, and it made me a stronger person.” ~ Lee Levitt Los Angeles, CA
“Atma shared his vast knowledge with our group. I am so grateful to be a part of his beautiful spirit.” ~Anandini Ook, Atlanta, Georgia
“I found the breathing techniques very helpful from both a physiological and a spiritual sense. I was grateful to have the experience.” ~ Mimi Perper, Greensboro, North Carolina
“During class, Atma said, 'that creativity would open and flow'. 'Not likely', I thought to myself. To my delight and surprise, after just a few classes, one evening a flood of creativity - ideas, insight as to execution of these ideas, and getting down to work -swept through me. I did not expect so much, so fast. This really works. Thank you." ~ Jonathan Edelman, Los Angeles, CA
“It is a very positive process. I think that it takes a very strong individual to participate. And it was just so powerful for me, personally. I feel great. It is always a very positive energy here for me." ~ Yael Sverdlik, New York, NY
"I am pretty much unrecognizable, comparing where I am at now to how I was when I started taking the classes. Before I started I thought there was just no way out for me, but now I know that if I'm not getting to where I need to go with my life it is because I am not taking up the process, I'm not practicing it enough right now. For me the practice has been most helpful with the mantras and gratitude." ~ Adrienne Bramhall, Sebastopol, California
Here is what some of my students have said:
What makes me a yoga teacher trainer unlike any other?
And, why you should register for this course today
A very lucky kid
When I was just 10 years old, I was introduced to my first Guru and Mentor. He was Yogi Achala, an American Yogi and Brahmin (Vedic scholar). He was the disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas, and he taught me meditation, pranayama, systematic relaxation, and the importance of mantras. He was the first of what would be a long and extraordinary series of mentors: 17 in all.
Each mentor taught me about an invaluable aspect of life, including: meditation, philosophy, psychology, human engineering, self-development, science, Sanskrit, literature, writing and the arts.
I began to understand the secret of happiness.
The cumulative effect of all these mentors (and a lot of time spent in universities and ashrams) gave me a unique understanding of the human condition. My training showed me how to turn theories of happiness and productivity into a practice that can alter a person’s life.
I am able to look at yoga from an Eastern and Western perspective simultaneously. In fact, it is my ability to blend the insights of Eastern philosophy and Western science that allows me to teach you a completely new and more effective way to teach yoga.
Mystical initiation in the foothills of the Himalaya
I experienced the direct benefits of yoga when I returned from my first trip to India. I had spent nearly two months in Rishikesh on the banks of the River Ganges. I had gone to study meditation intensively under the tutelage of Swami Jnaneshwari. I was told he had uncovered insights into meditation that had been hidden or forgotten for a very long time. These insights were mind blowing and life altering to say the least.
When I returned to Los Angeles from India I thought these mystical feelings and insights would pass, but they remained with me. I continued chanting mantras 8-12 hours a day, sleeping 4 hours a night, and was spontaneously celibate. Meditation had changed my life forever.
Teaching around the world
One year later I started receiving invitations to teach. In the 15 years since, I have published articles in major yoga magazines, learned Sanskrit, run yoga studios, trained yoga teachers in over 30 cities in the US, Europe, and Asia. I have spoken and lectured in front of hundreds of audiences all over the world. A partial list includes:
